Zoo Trustee, Kevin Fitzgerald to Speak, June 7

Please join us on Tuesday, June 7 to meet Denver Zoo trustee, Dr. Kevin Fitzgerald. We will meet in the Multi-Purpose Room at the Carla Madison Recreation Center, 2401 East Colfax Avenue. The CPFAN Board Meeting will begin at 5:30 pm and the program will follow at 6:30 pm. Parking is behind the Center, accessible from 16th Avenue. Dr. Fitzgerald is a mesmerizing speaker and dynamic presence, and it is hoped that most can attend this special event in person, but there will be Zoom access to the meeting.

Well-known and admired Denver veterinarian, animal activist and conservationist, Dr. Kevin Fitzgerald started his career at the suggestion of Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones. Fitzgerald worked security for the rock legend over a period of 25 years until Richards urged him to “get on with his life†and maybe go back to school.  The suggestion led to not only a thriving veterinary practice at Alameda East Veterinary Hospital in Denver, but featured roles on Animal Planet’s “Emergency Vets†series and also “E-Vet Interns.†In addition, Dr. Fitzgerald lectures nationally and internationally on topics ranging from toxicology to emergency medicine to care of exotic species. He has published more than 150 scientific journal articles and 41 veterinary magazines including American Kennel Club, Family Dog Magazine and Police K9 Magazine.

Fitzgerald has been a trustee for the Denver Zoo since 2009 and has supported the Zoo’s conservation work in Mongolia by assisting capture-and-tagging missions, as well as studies on wildlife health in the Ikh Nart Nature Reserve, a protected area in the East Gobi Province of Mongolia. He also serves as consultant to the Smithsonian Institution for veterinary matters and for endangered species world-wide. He has assisted in 10 animal expeditions ranging from Antarctica to Manitoba focusing on conservation to endangered species.
