CPFAN Board Meeting Minutes                                                                                                                                 February 7, 2023

Board members in attendance: Georgia Garnsey, Joe Mauro, Patty Paul, John Brett, Brooke Baden, Sandy Robnett

  1. Call to order 5:35 PM
  2. Secretary’s Minutes for December 6, 2022, accepted (Joe moved to accept, John 2nd)

III. Treasurer’s Report for December and January, Joe Mauro, accepted (John moved to accept, Sandy 2nd)

  1. Announcements: a. Ean Tafoya, mayoral candidate Ean has had a “love affair†with City Park since childhood. He had several jobs in the area, including at the greenhouses and the Museum of Nature and Science. Among his numerous positions in Colorado and Washington, D.C., he has been State Director for Green Latino, Waste No More, taught at a Montessori Center in Five Points, and is working for public transit to Denver Mountain Parks. Priority issues for Ean are environmental justice, housing, public health and safety, and getting neighborhood organizations working together to create regional cooperation. Ean believes that Denver’s government needs to be investing in what is already working and have a vision of where the city is going.
  2. Sam McCrory, Viva Streets Denver Sam explained Viva Streets’ initiative, along with Downtown Denver Partnership, to close a 3 mile section of Broadway from Alameda continuing north to Welton, and along Welton to Downing. The objective is to allow residents to walk, bike, roll or scoot through the diverse historic communities along the route in a car-free environment on one Sunday a month in May, June, July and August. There will be activity centers along the route with activities for children and families.
  3. Committee Reports
  4. Denver’s City Park book reprint, Patty Patty reported that we have received photo releases from all the agencies contributing photos used in Bette Peters’ book. She requested $240.00 for Cathy Calder to create PDFs of three additional pages for the reprint. Sandy moved to authorize the expenditure, John seconded, and the motion passed.

Handball Courts:  Hank Bootz reported that along with Georgia and Brooke, he met with Adam Smith and Dan Williams to talk about repairs to the courts. Denver Park Trust will serve as the fiscal agent for the project. Denver Parks and Recreation, will handle the concrete repairs.                                                   Priorities are: 1) having a safe playing area. DPR will do the work to certain standards. 2) Beautification of the area. DPR is inviting contributions be made to do the work.

Program

Brooke Baden, My Outdoor Colorado Coordinator and CPFAN Board member

Brooke began the program by inviting attendees to explore 5 bowls of herbs on tables around the room. She explained that there are two types of plant medicine, internal and external. Internal plant medicine can be teas or infusions, decoctions, syrups and tinctures. External applications can be salves, plasters, and poultices.

Brooke defined plant terms and the Materia Medica, focusing on possible uses for cold, flu and COVID symptoms. Featured herbs included mullein, bee balm, dandelion, nettle and mallow. Samples of cough drops, a steam inhalation blend and a wellness tea blend were provided, along with recipes.
