  1. Board meeting called to order 5:34 PM

  1. Georgia made a motion to approve minutes for 12/7/2021 meeting. Approved as read.

  • Treasurer’s Report. Approved as read.

  1. Committee Reports
  • Denver’s City Park by Bette Peters update. Patty reported that the meeting with David Peters was postponed due to COVID levels. The next step is to meet with librarians at Denver Public Library for guidance on printing.

  • 2018 City Park Master Plan review with City Park Alliance and Mallory Bettag, DPR Senior Planner.                                                                          Fred reported:                                                                                                   Upgrading the irrigation system is key to future flowerbed projects and the health of existing trees.                                                                                           There is a possibility of future repurposing of the Elephant House as a coffee house or café.                                                                                                 Recommendations in the City Park Master Plan include converting the blue grass expansive lawn in the South Meadow to an area of native grasses and propagator gardens. This recommendation is dependent on irrigation upgrades as we understand it. We decided to invite the Irrigation Project Manager for DPR to an upcoming meeting to present further information on the Irrigation Master Plan.

  • CPFAN Programs and Tours update. Georgia suggested several possible future programs including:                                                                                                           Katy Charles, a photographer who focuses on City Park

Fred suggested a program with Cara DeGette.

District 9 CCW Candy CdeBaca and Vern Howard, head of the MLK Marade and community activist were other suggestions                                                                                                                               Another idea: a tour of City Park’s trees by the City Forester

  • Jessica Zender, a 17-year resident of the Whittier neighborhood, gave an update on what is happening in District 9 and Candi CdeBaca’s office. They are working on creating greater transparency with the DPR Board, including more access and greater equity in the use of resources.               They are pushing for a humane solution to the unhoused situation.

They broke ground for homes at GES Land Trust (community members own the land). The homes are being built with the help of grants.             The shrinking of public space is a concern of Councilperson CdeBaca.

Redistricting is happening now.

  • Georgia discussed the Pollinator Protection Bill and whether we were interested in supporting it. (Councilperson CdeBaca is supporting the bill).
