CPFAN Board Meeting Minutes                                                                                                                                 August 1, 2023

Board members in attendance: Georgia Garnsey, Joe Mauro, Patty Paul, Robbie Marks, Kelly Crosby, Sandy Robnett, Mike Fernandez

  1. Call to order 5:50 PM
  2. Secretary’s Minutes for board retreat June 14, 2023, approved (Mike moved to approve, Robbie 2nd)

III. Treasurer’s Report, Joe Mauro, approved pending correction (Patty moved to accept, Sandy 2nd)

  2. Denver’s City Park update: Patty reported graphic designer, Cathy Calder is preparing additional pages for 3rd Original copy will be scanned to print, then book will be ready to send to printer. Printing costs have gone up in the last year. Patty will prepare a statement of costs to finish preparation and print book. Ways to make donations towards printing costs were discussed.
  3. Handball courts restoration: Hank reported that the handball court repairs were complete. He acknowledged cooperation from Adam Smith and volunteer help by board members. The concrete was serviceably patched, the area was cleaned up, lines were repainted and the backwall was painted. The players picked the color. Next steps include screening for the storage yard area and keeping the conversation going.
  4. DMNS east entrance renovation: Mike reported on changes, including removal of the existing structure covering the original steps and new canopy. He would like to press them on not removing the spruce trees flanking the entrance since they provide habitat for birds. There is also a concern about the extent of the concrete pad. Can “green†concrete be used?                            Adopt a Flowerbed: Georgia reported that volunteers have influenced DPR to back off their      policy of using pesticides in Ida’s Garden. There is growing trust between DPR horticulturists and program volunteers. A list of perennials was developed for next year in collaboration with DPR and Adopt a Flowerbed

September 5th meeting will be a tour of flowerbeds by Maria Flora, Adopt a Flowerbed

Hank Bootz will explore an October Sunday meeting to celebrate the restoration of the handball courts with players.

Sandy and Kelly will work on setting up a meeting with Darrell Watson.

Robbie will get in touch with Michelle Simpson regarding a program on gardening with native plants and the Mt. Vernon Garden in Washington Park

Sandy will explore having a program on the Black Arts Festival.
